Bellport Chamber of Commerce awarded Jim Avino their 2012 Member of the Year award last week at the Brookhaven Coalition of Chamber’s annual awards ceremony at the Meadow Club in Port Jefferson. 2012 is Jim’s 30th year with the chamber having been President and most recently historian. He owned the Bellport Chowder House for 25 years and then purchased a landmark historical home creating Avino’s Italian Table in 2008.
The Bellport Chamber of Commerce formed in 1926 but for many of those 86 years the chamber didn’t really exist as there weren’t any volunteers willing to work for the benefit of the greater good. President Dianne Romano relayed the following comments at the ceremony, “Sometimes we wonder why we do all of this but then we think of Jim Avino and are inspired by his work ethic, his family and his life. We are giving him a new title tonight – Board Member in Charge of Sustainability. Congratulations!”

The Bellport Chamber of Commerce was awarded the 2012 Stimulus Incentive Grant given by the Brookhaven Coalition of Chambers last week at the Meadow Club in Port Jefferson as part of their annual awards ceremony. There were over 12 applicants and Bellport was chosen for its commitment to bringing the latest web technologies in an affordable way to all its members (memberships start at just $110 per year). The grant will help the Bellport Chamber enhance their current website by offering a members only portal allowing access to vital business information, members only blog, webinars and podcasts. It will also allow the ability for members to post their news, events and specials to a syndicated news feed that will help promote their businesses via email and text messaging.
